Listening to the album Kala sent my mind on a trip to some wonderful eastern place. The heavy tribal african drums on songs like Birdflu and Boyz are so different than what most Western artists produce. If you want to listen to something truly different than most American artists make, than I highly suggest you listen to Kala. Upon first hearing the CD I was floored because unlike most dance-pop artists M.I.A. didn't abuse a synthesizer and call it an album, she actually explored different sounds and noises to create ear-pleasing tracks. All of the songs on this album are worth listening to (although Bamboo Banga and Birdflu are somewhat slow to kick-off the album) but I highly recommend Paper Planes, The Turn and Hussel for first time M.I.A. listeners.
