To be completely honest, I have never listened to Weezer apart from that one song, ‘Buddy Holly’ and so I’m about to listen to them pretty much for the first time in order to review their most recent release: ‘The Red Album’.
Okay, after hearing the whole thing I have to say that this album confuses me a bit. I thought it got off to a good start with ‘Troublemaker’ but after that it goes downhill until it gets to ‘Cold Dark World’ and onwards. The six songs in between make it sound like the band haven’t really put much thought into what they were doing as too many things are happening in a small amount of time. As it gets towards the end of this CD, the songs are drearier but still better than the jumbled mess that comes before it and you start to see how much better this album could have been. For those of you who don’t know Weezer, they are described as ‘alternative’ on their MySpace page and while that doesn’t give much away I think it’s pretty much the only genre they can be given. The end result of this CD basically sounds like two different albums in one which means that altogether the album doesn’t flow well and honestly I’m not very impressed.
