Having only vaguely heard of this band, my first thoughts are directed to why this is. Are they an amazing band who hasn’t made it yet due to the nature of this industry or is the music just not up to standard? We’ll have to find out.
The opening song ‘Between a Man And a Woman’ sets the scene for the rest of the album with a jaunty and lively song. The highlight of this album being, for me, ‘Man With No Country’ because basically the genre leans more towards rock than the other songs. The music has a definite country feel and it’s easy to tell that the band has a lot of musical talent, although I can’t say that I’m overly fond of the raspy vocals. The music is upbeat and, I imagine, easy to dance like an idiot to which is always fun, even if it feels like the dancing should be done in a barn. Overall, I don’t think Flogging Molly fits into either of the categories stated above. They have clear talent but to be honest, the mainstream isn’t ready for them and I’m sure they probably know that. They’re a good band to have in the world because they’re different and in no way cliché but I wouldn’t expect them to be hitting the charts any time soon. Then again, I could be wrong.
